Joyce L. Santos

I have lived in Raritan Township for the last 30 years, moving here in 1988 with my then teenage son, though my roots in this area go back to John Ringo. I am a mother, doting grandmother, volunteer, community activist, and an accomplished leader in my profession. As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, I have lobbied state and federal legislators to allocate some of the millions collected annually from tobacco taxes to fund youth smoking prevention efforts and palliative care for cancer patients.

I have 40 years of experience in computer technology, product development, management, and marketing. My work experience began at the age of 7 when I started working with customers at my grandparent’s business, The Go-Cart Shop. My varied and accomplished career path has given me the invaluable skills of a critical thinker and problem solver. I am skilled at finding solutions that maximize resources while keeping costs down and saving jobs.

I am committed to my community and the issues that impact our township.

So why politics and why now?

I retired from my career job in January of 2016. Having more time, I started getting more involved with the American Cancer Society’s, Cancer Action Network and enjoyed getting to know the people who represent me in our state and federal governments.  When I woke up on November 9th, I knew I needed to get more involved.

I joined several online grassroots activists groups. I am a online moderator and organization liaison for Action Together New Jersey, a co-Chair for Action Together Hunterdon County and on the steering committee for NJ7Forward. I realized that if I really wanted to have an impact on my community and advocate for change, politics was the natural next step. I joined the Raritan Township Democratic Club and became a Committee Member for District 14 for the Hunterdon County Democrats. After researching ways to get more involved, it became clear the Raritan Township Committee is the place where I can make the biggest difference.
